Am I the right counsellor for you?

I have completed training as a Humanistic Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor via a course which is accredited by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB). â€‹I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am fully insured at present as a student and am in the process of getting this changed to a full member.

But what does this actually mean?

It means I am qualified and insured to work as a therapeutic counsellor. Not only have I completed nearly 4 years of academic study in order to be qualified, but I have also been seeing clients for over a year in a voluntary capacity.

The 'humanistic' part means that I see you as a whole human person, I am here to listen without judgement and encourage you on a journey of self discovery. I work with you to build a strong, supportive working relationship where you feel safe to share your thoughts and emotions.

The 'integrative' part means that I have learnt lots of different tools, techniques, models and approaches from lots of different theories and teachings, which means I can take different approaches depending on what works best for you.

It means I can support you to explore your unique experiences, situations and feelings. I believe that doing therapeutic work with the right counsellor can make so many positive changes for people and I hope that I can be the right person for you to work with. â€‹â€‹

Who can I work with?

  • I work with anybody who is looking for counselling and therapeutic intervention and support. I don't have any criteria other than you need to be over 18 and you need to want to access support.

  • I am based in Bournemouth for face to face appointments, but can also work flexibly online and/or on the telephone as required.

  • I am able to take a flexible approach as to when we have our sessions if for example you do shift work or have different availability each week/ fortnight etc.

  • If you are a member of the Queer community and want someone you feel safe being yourself with, you are safe with me.

  • If you are looking for support around your sexuality, gender, gender identity or relationship dynamics within the Queer community I will be able to support you with this.

  • I am trained and have worked with people using a trauma model approach. This means we can explore your trauma in a safe way. For more information see below.

  • I am keen to expand my skills and knowledge in working with people therapeutically in nature and will be looking to develop my counselling practice in nature in the future. For more information see the 'Nature Therapy' part of my website.

Trauma Model

Working therapeutically with the trauma model involves helping you understand how past traumatic experiences impact your  present emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

The process begins by creating a safe, trusting environment where you feel supported. As a counsellor, I can help you explore and process your trauma gradually, ensuring you remain grounded and not overwhelmed. Techniques like grounding exercises, mindfulness, or exploring memories safely are often used.

The focus is on building resilience, identifying triggers, and developing healthier coping mechanisms. I can also empower you to reconnect with your sense of self and gain control over your life, fostering healing and personal growth.
