About me

I graduated from Bournemouth University (BU) in 2011 and have practiced as a qualified social worker since this time. I worked for the majority of this time in local authority statutory social work for a local authority in Adult Social Services.  I spent many years working in Drug and Alcohol Statutory Services working with some of the most marginalised people in our community. This included people active in their addiction, people who were homeless, people who were sex working and people who had experienced high levels of trauma throughout their life. During this time I also volunteered with Dorset Working Women's Project (DWWP) which I continue to do despite having now left this statutory role.

In 2019 I moved into the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Team completing assessments for people who have been assessed as lacking capacity to make decisions about where they live due to 'an impairment of the brain' and are subsequently deprived of their liberty and not free to leave where they are (either a hospital or care home). As a Best Interests Assessor I undertake an assessment to make sure the restrictions are necessary and proportionate and are the least restrictive option available and also in the persons' best interests.

I qualified as a Practice Educator in 2019 and I work with social work students who are out on placement as part of their degree or masters course. This is a supervisory role but also assessing the students ability to practice as a social workers once qualified. The role is also to support the students to embed the learning on placement into their practice and also put what they are learning in university into practice on placement.

I left local authority social work in August 2022 and now do independent social work. For more information about the services I can offer, please see the 'social work services' part of my website. I have also continued to practice as a Practice Educator across the South of England for a variety of different Universities.

I also have the privilege of now teaching at Bournemouth University on the Social Work program. I teach the Professional Practice with Adults unit to both the degree and masters students as well as the Social Justice unit and Learning from the Living Experience unit.

I have also recently qualified as a CPCAB accredited therapeutic counsellor which has been such a transformational journey and one I am so excited to continue. As part of this course I have spent the last year as a volunteer counsellor at STARS Dorset which has also been such a privilege and a role in which I intend to continue. STARS Dorset work with people who have experienced any form of sexual violence at any time in the their life. For more information please see the 'Counselling Services' part of my website.

In October 2024 I completed a Level 1 Shinrin Yoku Basic Practitioner Course and am currently completing Level 2 work to gain further qualifications and experience. This has been  such a magical experience for me being able to move away from academia and more in connection with nature. It has meant that I have been able to take people out into nature for Forest Bathing and in the future as a joint initiative with CIC Ripple Rebels for people to access both Green and Blue Therapy. For more information please see the 'Nature Therapy' part of my website.

Me personally - I am a proud member of the Queer community, I love spending as much time out in nature as I can and I cherish the time I get connecting to nature and all it's beneficial energy. I love reading and learning about all things connected to nature and mental health. I am an avid reader, I love music, films and a good series  binge when I find time.
